COUNSELLING AND REHABILITATION
CENTER FOR THE INTERRACIAL COMMUNITY IN RUSSIA

In order to further assist Afro-Russian families, Metis fund has organized a program of counseling and educational support to children and their families, with the sponsorship of EU, ARC, IWC and Russia’s State Children’s Library. The program includes legal advice to single mothers and grandmothers of mixed race children, learning sessions for interracial children, youth and their mothers, psychological support to mixed race children - victims of race-related crime and racial discrimination, their mothers and grandparents; team-building and networking, workshops for children and their parents, and a rehabilitation camp for victims of racism. This program is sponsored by European Union and other international organizations.

For three years now Metis runs classes and ethnic gatherings in the RSCL, however the limited resources prevented METIS from establishing a profound educational and counseling center. Now, with the EU sponsorship, we are able to provide help to biracial families (90% - single parent families) on a broader scope. Most of the mothers of Metis children don’t know their rights and don’t know where to seek assistance when their dark-skinned children are being discriminated and abused.

Inability of the mothers to provide good education for their kids brings a great limitation of the job opportunities for mixed race people and therefore results instruggle to provide for their own families in the future.
